9th-Nov-2009 07:31 pm - Cinderella touring
PopIcon
Yesterday evening I finished unloading Cinderella back into the BAC and returned the truck. I'm not sure how much energy I want to invest in it over the next week and a half, but I'd really like to try and simplify the hold load in/ load out process. I know the ballet company just put in for a grant that should they receive it would supply us with some more road cases which would definitely be handy. Nessa and I also really want to build a new carriage before the Maplewood shows. I'm also thinking adding casters to the fireplace might be a good idea.

Speaking of Maplewood I need one or two more stagehands for that run. The performances are the 20th, 21st, and 22nd at the Maplewood Community Center. I'll find out tomorrow if I can load-in on the 19th (that is my hope). I can pay $150 per person for the run. Responsibilities will include load-in and load-out of sets, costumes, and props (actually pretty minimal as everything fills only about 3/4s of a 16' Budget truck), assisting with the hanging and focusing of lights, and working as running crew for performances (5 scene changes).

After several days of coughing I appear to have graduated to hiccups.
23rd-Oct-2009 08:49 pm - Double Feature
PopIcon
Did a double feature yesterday with Nessa. We started with "Where the Wild Things Are" and followed that up with "Whip It".

I really, really liked WWTA. It does a fantastic job of capturing a general sense of childhood onscreen. There isn't a whole lot of "story" to it, but it doesn't need it especially when you consider how little story there is to the original "book". The boy who plays Max is fantastic. Over and over again he made me think of my nephew with his mannerisms. And though, to be honest, I cry pretty easily at movies I was definitely crying at the end of this one. Ahhwooo!!!

"Whip It" was decent but it seemed a little too simplistic, and I'm trying to figure out why the Hurl Scouts seemed to continually be battling the Widows but never faced the Holy Rollers until the championship bout. Just sayin'...
19th-Oct-2009 08:50 pm - That's a wrap!
PopIcon
Yay! We wrapped shooting on Nova Roma today. I'm looking forward to not hearing my alarm clock go off tomorrow morning, though eventually I will have to drive the truck back to the warehouse and offload all of the set stuff.
17th-Oct-2009 09:11 pm - Nova Roma Day 2
PopIcon
Day 2 of the Nova Roma shoot is done, or at least my part of it is done. I'm pretty exhausted which is handy as we need to be getting to sleep soon so we can get up to be back on set at 5:30a. I really wish we could have left the large pieces up overnight, but unfortunately they are all safely stored away in the truck waiting to be reassembled in the morning. The giant statue, wash basin, and sacrificial altar(?) worked out nicely. Hopefully we can get the entryway walls, rubble, ledge, etc. to do what's necessary also. I'm pretty impressed with what we've pulled off art department-wise on this production.

Shooting for Nova Roma starts tomorrow.
I've been working building set pieces for the past couple weeks, and started loading them into the truck today. Its going to be a long weekend.

Does anyone know a good source for sheet plastic to be used in vacuum-forming?
1st-Oct-2009 09:39 am - Movie making

If anyone is interested we can always use a few more hands for building sets and props for the short film, Nova Roma. Let me know, and I can shoot you a copy of our build schedule, the address for the build site, and such. We are also looking for a set dresser.
13th-Aug-2009 10:25 am - Doctor recommendations
PopIcon
The work comp folks have told Nessa that she can go find another doctor to check her out about her back, but the last doctor was so unhelpful that we are a little leery in trying to find a new one. Does anyone have any personal recommendations for a doctor, ideally down towards Bloomington?
