Well, here is an interesting tidbit.
I went to look at my accoutn online today and noticed an overdraft charge. Thing is there is no sign of my account balance having gone below 0. I called and was told that Tuesday my "available balance" dipped below 0. "Available Balance" takes into account pending check card purchases. Thing is I had a deposit that went in yesterday, before a few of those check card purchases went through, that kept my account in the positive. In other words I was nailed for overdrafting my account without ever actually doing so. Anyway, just a heads up, for US Bank customers at least, that they are now basing overdraft status on "available balance" rather than actual account balances so no more trying to race the system.

If it was more than a few check card purchases, some inflated estimated amounts may have piled up... maybe even outweighing the amount of the deposit (?).

No, what happened was my monthly electronic payment to Lifetime Fitness went through which combined with a few pending check card purchases dropped my "available balance" below 0, even though my actual balance was around $40.

That stinks a lot.

That's stupid. I use USBank, and I have overdraft protection, but it's still stupid.

Always remember that they do deposits at the END of the day. Doesn't matter if you did it at 8am, it won't get credited to your account till the end of the day.
Banks suck.

Makes me glad I use a credit union.

Btw, how did your meeting last night go?

Unsurprisingly, Dorkazoid played nicer with Boss-Lady around. The difference between the two is night and day as far as enthusiasm.
I don't know what working relationship the two of them might have, but I just can't fathom how she hasn't noticed his complete lack of excitement about doing this job.

I said "Into the Woods" last night and his immediate response was "too big". Gah! Can we thinking positively and outside the box please?!?!!!

there was a news article a while back about how all the banks are doing this now. No more floating checks. (if i could find the article i'd link, but i wasn't paying too much attention to it to find it now)

This is why I use a credit union. Mine takes money from my savings account before it overdrafts, so no fees.

Fortunately, I haven't overdrafted in quite some time. Yay, stability!

Oh I despise US Bank. They would do that to me all the time. Finally I asked myself why I kept coming back for more. Laziness, I suppose. I mean, it takes almost an hour total to set up a new account somewhere else, and close the US Bank hole..er, account. I joined a credit union. I went from monthly overdraft charges (I swore I was keeping track!) to 2 overdraft charges in 3 years at the credit union.
